Evolutionary business models

The private banking landscape has drastically altered in the last six months as a result of the financial crisis. Many people have had their fingers burnt, leading to a fall in investment across a number of different assets. Clients are increasingly scrutinising how their assets have performed and giving greater consideration to what business models are better aligned to serve their interests, and ultra net worth clients are starting to reassess how they can make the best returns on their capital in the safest way. With all this in mind, where do we see the market moving?

PBI's roundtable will look at existing and emerging business models and current trends in the market, including:

  • Have investors lost faith in traditional investment banking models?
  • How can this faith be restored and what products can banks provide to meet the demands of this changing demographic?
  • The emergence of family offices as a rival to investment banks - is this just a reaction to recent events or a permanent shift in the market?
  • There is a greater focus now on building an onshore business, why is this?
  • Can investment banking work effectively alongside wealth management?
  • What is driving the trend of talent to leave well known banks to become Independent Financial Advisors and how will the impact on the industry?
  • What is new in private banking? What new business models are emerging?
  • What part does technology have to play?
  • What regulations and standards are impacting on the market?

The roundtable provides an opportunity for participants to tell us about the biggest issues facing their business in the current climate, and more importantly what initiatives they are working on, along with what they see as the biggest challenges in the year ahead and how the market will look in 2010.
